Not so much tourism as a collection of family pictures and stories of our visits with them.

In December 2007, we visited England and stayed with our cousins in St. Albans, just north of London. First Capital Connect has through trains from there to Brighton, where Val and her cousin Penny laughed at memories of a visit when they were both, let's say 3 -- 55 years earlier!
Brighton was decorated for the holidays and the high street looked very festive.
We visited The Royal Pavillion, built in the early 19th century for the Prince Regent, later King George IV. The inside is a fantastical melange of east Indian, art neauveau and whimsical decor and architecture. Well worth exploring.
In the 19th century, seafront towns in England competed to offer the most extragravant and thrilling piers. In March 2003, the West Pier in Brighton burned in a furious blaze. All that remains in this metal skeleton. There are rumours of a plan for rebuilding -- or something grander -- but nothing definite is known. The masts are from rental sailboats pulled up on the beach.
Cousin Penny attended university in Brighton and lived in this cottage in "The Lanes." It looks, she says, a good deal better today than when it was the home to a bunch of starving undergrads.
These seafront hotels served as temporary dorms (and rather seedy they were, if with great views), when Penny arrived as first year student.
As we walked through the chilly evening back to the train station, the moon rose over the High Street for an even more romantic holiday atmosphere.
The parish church in Puttenham is undergoing restoration, and a fund-raising campaign is underway to build a social hall and other amenities while preserving the historic character of the building. Puttenham is interesting to me because my name (Putnam) is reported to be a derivative from this town's name (or perhaps trom the town of the same name in Herts.).
The crossroad at the center of Puttenham did not look busy. We were on our way to South Wonston, north of Winchester, for a gathering on many cousins.
